History of Opportunities to Reach-Out

The Oakfield Talent Review, which has become an annual event since its commencement in 2011, has become the bread and butter of Opportunities to Reach-Out. The 1st Annual Oakfield Talent Review was held in 2011, benefiting Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County. In addition to the funds we raised for Habitat for Humanity, we were also able to collect numerous restore items that could be used in the new houses being built in our community! This event stirred a dream in the heart of the Opportunities to Reach-Out members, and through it, the tradition continued.

The Second Annual Oakfield Talent Review was held on May 5, 2012 at the Oakfield Elementary School. Through this event, we were able to support eight local families with special needs children. We were able to raise over $6,000 to distribute between the eight families, but more importantly, we were able to provide them with the emotional support they needed to know they are not alone in their battles. That is truly what we are all about, and the reason we do this event year after year (okay, two years...so far) - to help those in need around us. That is why we exist, and that is what we are all about.

• Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. -1 Corinthians 13: 4

• Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. -Hebrews 13:16

The Butterfly Effect

The main symbol of Opportunities to Reach-Out is the butterfly, which is based off of the well-known butterfly effect: that a small change can result in differences to a much larger degree. Also, just as a caterpillar turns into a butterfly, we want to take lives and transform them into something beautiful. Just when a caterpillar thinks its life is over, it grows wings. We want to prepare wings for others to enable them to truly fly.

Poem Written By the Creator of Opportunities  to Reach Out:

We all deserve a love that’s unwavering, selfless, and kind;
So, why don’t you start with abandoning the word mine?
Take a second, a moment or two,

Take notice of all the faces and the names.

Notice the lost, hurt, and lonely in your everyday life,
And invest in their lives; make it your own strife.
Smile at a stranger, and pray for a friend.
Let them know, you’ll be there till the end.
Don’t forget the child that goes hungry overseas,
Make it your goal to fulfill their dreams.
Take note of the beggar, the hungry, the poor.
Don’t be afraid; sit beside them on the floor.
Realize there’s so much in the world you’ve yet to see,
And know there’s more that you can be.
Don’t ask what this world can do for you,
Instead say, “Here are my hands and feet; they serve you.”
Listen with your heart and feel with your soul.
Let the will of your life be in God’s control.
Let compassion, mercy, and hope burst from your seams,
And truly acknowledge what love really means.
